Community Buildings
Community Buildings are anchors for the people who use them. Their triple bottom line impacts can be huge, and so they need to be understood and improved on this basis.
A Building Passport is the ideal tool for doing this. Using this tool provides a holistic look at the owner, the community, the wider context, and the building itself. Only where the whole picture is understood can a holistic plan be created.
The Building Passport can be used to put in place a maintenance plan, keeping expenditure to a minimum and allowing the managers of the building to save or apply for funding for large-cost items.
For and changes required to keep the building meeting the needs of its community a Feasibility Study can be carried out. This must be holistic, looking at the owners, the users, the community, the greenspace, the energy systems, and the building fabric. The answer might be the need for a new organisation, such as a community trust or community energy project.
